TPO Roofing
Commercial roofing specifications often require a flat to low—slope surface to be covered by a multi — or single—ply membrane system. TPO, or thermoplastic polyolefin's, became popular in the commercial industry during the 1990s. Today it is the fastest growing single-ply rubber roofing membrane being installed in the United States.
Technological improvements allow TPO some benefits over adhesive/taped seams of thermoset roofing systems. TPO is a thermoplastic membrane, which allows high heat welding to fuse sheets together forming an impervious seam against moisture and other elements. Another advantage is that the seams can be consistently welded across a broad range of ambient temperatures.
Additional benefits of TPO membranes are:
- Membranes are flexible at lower temperatures
- Material is extremely resistant to impact, puncture, and tearing
- The product can be installed using three methods - ballasted, fully adhered and mechanically attached
- Membranes come in different widths from 6-feet to 12-feet
- Highly resistance to algae and mold
- Material can be recycled during the production phase into another TPO product
- An environmentally safe product - as no chlorine is used during production
- Reflective value of the white TPO exceeds EPA's ENERGY STAR performance levels
